Wasgamuwa National Park
There are 23 species of mammals that have been spotted at the park and of these, the most important is the Wild Elephant of which, there are approximately 150 of them living in the Park. In addition to these giants, you might see Wild Buffaloes and Spotted Deer grazing in the grasslands. If you are really lucky, you might come across a Leopard or even a Sloth Bear lazing the time away under a shady tree. Be careful where you cool your feet! Water Monitors and Crocodiles have been spotted in the water holes within the park.
Udawalawe National Park
In Udawalawe National Park, close to 50-60 Elephants can be seen and the ‘Nursery Herd’ which comprise of many baby Elephants, is one of the key attractions. The park has good sightings for birds of prey like the Grey-headed Fish Eagle, Black-shouldered Kite, Changeable Hawk Eagle, Crested Serpent Eagle, White-bellied Sea Eagle, Shikra, Common Kestrel, Brown Fish Owl and Western Marsh Harrier. Also look for Malabar-pied Hornbill, Thick-billed Flowerpecker, Plum-headed Parakeet, Common Hoopoe, Sirkeer Malkoha, Blue-faced Malkoha, Little Green Bee-eater, Indian Silverbill, Black-headed Munia and the Barred Buttonquail (a rare sub-species leggei, which is one of the 18 sub-species worldwide!),. Also look for the migrants which include Black-capped Purple Kingfishers, Blyth's Pipits and Orange-headed Thrushes.

1 | Colombo - Talangama
Arrive in Bandaranayake International Airport in Colombo and check in to the hotel for one night. Scheduling an arrival in Colombo in the morning, means that you will have a chance for birding in the afternoon at the Talangama Wetlands. You will see many water birds and there has been a total of around 50 species of migrants & endemics recorded, especially from November through April. Highlights include Cinnamon, Black and Yellow Bitterns, while the endemic Ceylon Swallows may also be sighted, usually in the late afternoons. 2 | Talangama - Sigiriya
After breakfast, leave for Sigiriya for one night. In the afternoon, take a jeep safari at Minneriya National Park, which is dominated by the Minneriya tank. The tank provides water to 8900 hectares of paddy fields and is thriving with freshwater fish. Besides providing water for irrigation, this tank and its environs have provided the necessary resources for various wildlife and plant life. In the late evening, we will go out for Loris Watching. 3 | Sigiriya - Polonnaruwa - Wasgamuwa
After breakfast, leave for Wasgamuwa. En route, visit Polonnaruwa (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) for primates watching. Polonnaruwa is probably one of the best places in the world to observe the social dynamics of diurnal primates. The endemic Toque Monkeys have been subjects of one of the longest running field studies in the world. Also, visit the Polonnaruwa Primate Research Centre. 4 | Wasgamuwa

5 | Wasgamuwa - Nuwara Eliya
After breakfast, leave for Cocoon Hills, Nuwara Eliya for one night. In the afternoon, visit Hakgala Botanical Garden for endemic highland birds. The real draw here for birdwatchers are the montane endemics like Sri Lanka White Eyes, Sri Lanka Wood Pigeons, Ceylon Hill Munias and Dull-blue Flycatchers. 6 | Nuwara Eliya - Udaw Walawe
In the morning, visit Horton Plains National Park, known for its cloud forests and rare montane fauna like the endemic Rhino-horned Lizards. Primates in the highlights include endemic Bear Monkeys (also called the Purple-faced Leaf Monkeys or Purple-faced Langur) & nocturnal endemic Red Loris. 7 | Udaw Walawe
In the morning & afternoon, go out for game drives into Udawalawe National Park which presents you with the first dry zone experience on the tour, seeing Elephants and fantastic birding opportunities. 8 | Talangama - Negombo
